Holiday Safety Tips
The holidays are an exciting time of the year, especially for children.
To help ensure that everyone has a joyful and safe holiday season, here
are some tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics:
-
Lights - Before using lights outdoors, check labels
to be sure the lights have been certified for outdoor use. Turn off
all lights when you go to bed or leave the house.
-
Toy safety - Follow recommended age ranges on toys.
Toys that are too advanced or that have small removable parts could
be a safety hazard for small children.
-
Trees - When purchasing an artificial tree, look
for the "fire resistant" label. For real trees, check for
freshness-the tree should not lose many needles. And maintain freshness
by keeping the tree stand filled with water. Position the Christmas
tree away from traffic and doorways.
-
Decorations - Use only noncombustible or flame-resistant
materials to trim a tree. Never use lighted candles on a tree or near
other evergreens. In homes with small children or pets, avoid decorations
that are sharp or breakable.
Enjoy all the fun and excitement of the holiday season! Best wishes
to you and yours for a joyful holiday.
